Ticks, sun and other summer chores
Summer hiking is easy right up to the point where it is not. Most of what goes wrong is small and preventable.
- Tick check at every long break and properly in the evening. Long trousers tucked into socks look silly and work.
- Sunscreen on the back of the neck and the backs of the hands, which is where I always burn.
- Electrolyte tablets in the first aid kit. A headache on a hot afternoon is usually salt, not water.
None of this is new advice. Writing it down is how I make myself follow it.
